DESCRIPTION:Come and learn how to be a scientist by joining OC Parks Naturalists in a BioBlitz! Did you know California is a biodiversity hotspot! Help scientists and OC Parks Staff with documenting the species found in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. You will learn about California’s unique biodiverse flora and fauna and how to use iNaturalist. Then you will go out and hike on your own while documenting the species you find along the way!  \n\n\n\nDownload the iNaturalist app on your phone and create an account before arriving to the program! You will choose the trail you want to hike\, whether that be easy\, medium\, or hard.  \n\n\n\nAge: 7 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  \n\n\n\nLocation: James Dilley Preserve\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (I-5 or 405 south to 133 south to stoplight at 73 toll road; and make a U-turn\, go 1 block. Dilley is on the right.).  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at James Dilley Preserve parking lot. Parking is limited\, carpooling is encouraged.  \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 2/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed shoes\, and sun protection. Download the iNaturalist app on your phone and create an account before arriving to the program!  \n\n\n\nSafety precautions and protocols:  \n\n\n\n\nAdvanced registration required. Every individual\, including children\, must be registered. \n\n\n\nGroup sizes are minimized for safety purposes. SUMMARY:Land Tending with LCF - Berns Canyon Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Do you dig plants? If so\, join Laguna Canyon Foundation for a morning of creating healthier habitats at the 18-acre Berns Canyon Preserve! LCF volunteers and staff will work together on various stewardship activities\, including hand-weeding non-native plants\, hand watering\, seed collection\, and planting. No experience is necessary\, and all are welcome to come learn and tend to these habitats together. All tools are provided for volunteers.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.    \n\n\n\nLocation: Laguna Canyon Foundation Headquarters (10 Phillips St. Laguna Beach\, CA 92651\, West side of highway 133). \n\n\n\nParking: Free parking for Land Tending volunteers at LCF Headquarters. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.  \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 2/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed shoes\, long pants\, and sun protection. DESCRIPTION:Insects are the most diverse group of animals on Planet Earth and make up 80% of all known species. There are more kinds of bugs than all the other types of animals combined! Join OC Parks naturalists on a family-friendly trek around Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park to learn all about these amazing animals who have perfected the art of ecological specialization. Insects may have a reputation for being icky\, but in fact\, they are essential pollinators who are needed to sustain life on our planet.  \n\n\n\nAge: All ages welcome.
