DESCRIPTION:Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteer naturalists in partnership with OC Parks to enjoy an easy\, 2.5-mile Family Hike over moderate but uneven terrain (45-ft. elevation gain). Starting at the James Dilley Preserve\, we will hike one of the most diverse areas of Laguna Coast Wilderness Park to Barbara’s Lake and back.   \n\n\n\nAge: 6 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: James Dilley Preserve\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (I-5 or 405 south to 133 south to stoplight at 73 toll road; and make a U-turn\, go 1 block. Perfect for first-time visitors\, new volunteers\, or anyone who wants to feel more at home in the coastal canyons.  \n\n\n\nThis is an easy-paced hike to Barbara’s Lake from the Nix Nature Center\, climbing Edison trail to an overlook of the lake and mountain views (approximately 3 miles\, minimal elevation gain). This trail is a very popular trail for families and hikers that want to visit the only natural lake in Orange County\, Barbara’s Lake.  \n\n\n\nAge: 12 or older. DESCRIPTION:The rocks of Laguna Coast Wilderness Park tell a story dating back millions of years. Join OC Park and LCF volunteers as they take you on a journey through history. You will discover volcanic intrusions\, explore rock formations 40 million years old\, and experience the only naturally occurring lake in Orange County. This program starts at the Nix Nature Center where we will discuss the rock formations of Orange County for about one hour. Then we will head out on trail\, where we will be hiking and exploring about 1 mile up Little Sycamore Trail. The program will end with an easy walk to Barbara’s Lake\, making our hike about 3 miles total over relatively flat terrain.  \n\n\n\nAge: 7 or older. Enjoy wildlife sounds\, smells\, and sights on this moderately-paced 5-mile hike on rocky terrain with less than 500 feet in elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.  \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas). This route starts at Aliso Creek Trail East\, continues up on Sheep Run (formerly known as Mentally Sensitive)\, and down on Meadows Trail. Your hard work will be rewarded with sweeping views of the park!  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:00 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. DESCRIPTION:Please be aware that this is a Fitness Hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile. Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers to raise your heart rate and your spirits on this strenuous\, fast-paced\, 8.25-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain with a 1\,200-ft. elevation gain. There is some rock scrambling involved in this hike. We will hike 2.5 miles on the relatively flat Wood Canyon trail\, climb Car Wreck trail to the top\, descend Mathis Canyon trail to Coyote Run trail\, then return on Wood Creek trail to the staging area.  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:30 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. SUMMARY:Trail Stewardship - Car Wreck
DESCRIPTION:If you use the Wilderness Parks for hiking\, biking\, photography or just relaxing\, Trail Work might be right up your alley! Get up close and personal with the trails you use; you’ll see them in a whole new way. No experience necessary. This is FUN hard work. Whatever your skill level is\, there is a job to do: clearing drains to get the water off the trail\, pruning vegetation back to keep users on the trail\, moving dirt to rebuild eroded tread\, and restoring impacted areas are just some of the tasks we will accomplish. We will be using tools such as loppers\, picks\, shovels\, and McLeod’s to improve the user experience\, protect the fragile habitat and increase the sustainability of our trails. Expect to hike up to 4 miles while carrying tools.   \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. DESCRIPTION:If you use the Wilderness Parks for hiking\, biking\, photography or just relaxing\, Trail Work might be right up your alley! Get up close and personal with the trails you use; you’ll see them in a whole new way. No experience necessary. This is FUN hard work. Whatever your skill level is\, there is a job to do: clearing drains to get the water off the trail\, pruning vegetation back to keep users on the trail\, moving dirt to rebuild eroded tread\, and restoring impacted areas are just some of the tasks we will accomplish. We will be using tools such as loppers\, picks\, shovels\, and McLeod’s to improve the user experience\, protect the fragile habitat and increase the sustainability of our trails. Expect to hike up to 4 miles while carrying tools.   \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. DESCRIPTION:Join OC Park and Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers for a bilingual nature hike through the scenic trails of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. This guided\, 3-mile hike on Aliso Creek Trail East with 150 ft. of elevation gain invites participants to explore the natural world in both English and Spanish\, fostering connection\, curiosity\, and community. Together we will walk\, marvel at\, and discover the fascinating plants that call these canyons home. Let’s walk\, wonder\, and learn — juntos/together.  \n\n\n\nAcompaña a los voluntarios de OC Parks y Laguna Canyon Foundation en una caminata guiada por los pintorescos senderos del Parque Natural Aliso y Wood Canyons. Esta actividad bilingüe por el sendero Aliso Creek Trail East es de aproximadamente 3 millas y 150 pies de altitud\, y tiene como propósito explorar el entorno natural en inglés y español\, fomentando la conexión\, la curiosidad y el sentido de comunidad. DESCRIPTION:Explore Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park with OC Parks and Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers\, where you might see deer\, bobcats\, and hawks. Learn about acorn woodpeckers – the hippies of the bird world – and the wonderful ways of woodrats\, as well as the peculiar nature of certain plants. Enjoy wildlife sounds\, smells\, and sights on this moderately-paced 5-mile hike on rocky terrain with less than 500 feet in elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.  \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas). DESCRIPTION:Please be aware this is a Fitness Hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile. Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers to raise your heart rate and your spirits on this strenuous\, fast paced 6-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain with a 1\,150-ft. elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:30 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. We’ll exclusively use Earth friendly materials that have either been found in nature\, reused from regular daily products\, or have been responsibly sourced. Sycamore trees will provide shade and ambiance over the picnic tables on beautiful weather days and the visitor center will give shelter if it’s chilly or toasty outdoors.
