DESCRIPTION:Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteer naturalists in partnership with OC Parks to enjoy an easy\, 2.5-mile Family Hike over moderate but uneven terrain (45-ft. elevation gain). Starting at the James Dilley Preserve\, we will hike one of the most diverse areas of Laguna Coast Wilderness Park to Barbara’s Lake and back.   \n\n\n\nAge: 6 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: James Dilley Preserve\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (I-5 or 405 south to 133 south to stoplight at 73 toll road; and make a U-turn\, go 1 block. Dilley is on the right.).  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at James Dilley Preserve parking lot. This program is designed to introduce the basics of birding in a friendly and accessible way while hiking along a 3-mile path with 50-foot elevation gain on uneven terrain. While the focus is on beginners\, birders of all experience levels are welcome. Come enjoy the sights and sounds of the morning as we explore the natural beauty along the creek!  \n\n\n\nAge: 7 or older. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to unplug and relax in nature?  Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers on a guided walk to experience the outdoors in a new way and allow your natural sense of wonder to take you to a mindful space outside.  \n\n\n\nWe will walk less than 1 mile on relatively flat terrain and take stops along the way to engage in playful activities and mindfulness exercises to deepen our connection with the natural environment and ourselves. Our walk will end with a tea ceremony focused on reciprocity\, a segue from the special\, quiet space we share on our walk\, back to the busy world.  \n\n\n\nDisclaimer: This program involves drinking tea. If you have food allergies or sensitivities\, please be sure to notify the program leader upon arrival.  \n\n\n\nAge: 10 or older. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to unplug and relax in nature?  Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers on a guided walk to experience the outdoors in a new way and allow your natural sense of wonder to take you to a mindful space outside.  \n\n\n\nWe will walk less than 1 mile on relatively flat terrain and take stops along the way to engage in playful activities and mindfulness exercises to deepen our connection with the natural environment and ourselves. DESCRIPTION:As the day starts to settle into night at Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park\, bats awaken and stir. Come hear fascinating tales of our flying mammals. We will spend time near the picnic tables hearing stories about our little heroes’ nighttime adventures. We will then take a short walk to see our bats begin their evening of hunting for insects. Be prepared to walk about 1/2 mile.  \n\n\n\nAge: 6 or older. SUMMARY:Jr. Ranger Adventure: Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park
DESCRIPTION:The OC Parks Jr. Ranger Program encourages park guests to explore the outdoor world within OC Parks by developing a sense of belonging\, becoming a part of nature and feeling empowered to be stewards of Orange County’s natural and cultural resources.  \n\n\n\nEarn yourself an Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park Jr. Ranger Badge by completing this Jr. Ranger adventure! You’ll learn to use your senses and make observations to experience and learn about nature.    \n\n\n\nAge: Designed for 7 to 12 years of age\, but all are welcome to participate. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  \n\n\n\nLocation: Aliso & Wood Canyons Visitor Center\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park (28373 Alicia Parkway\, Laguna Niguel\, CA 92677)  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at Laguna Niguel Regional Park parking lot. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged. \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 2/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed shoes\, and sun protection.  \n\n\n\nSafety precautions and protocols:  \n\n\n\n\nAdvanced registration required. Every individual\, including children\, must be registered. \n\n\n\nGroup sizes are minimized for safety purposes. DESCRIPTION:Insects are the most diverse group of animals on Planet Earth and make up 80% of all known species. There are more kinds of bugs than all the other types of animals combined! Join OC Parks naturalists on a family-friendly trek around Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park to learn all about these amazing animals who have perfected the art of ecological specialization. Insects may have a reputation for being icky\, but in fact\, they are essential pollinators who are needed to sustain life on our planet.  \n\n\n\nAge: All ages welcome. SUMMARY:Bats: Heroes of the Night
DESCRIPTION:As the day starts to settle into night at Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park\, bats awaken and stir. Come hear fascinating tales of our flying mammals. We will spend time near the picnic tables hearing stories about our little heroes’ nighttime adventures. We will then take a short walk to see our bats begin their evening of hunting for insects. Be prepared to walk about 1/2 mile.  \n\n\n\nAge: 6 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Aliso & Wood Canyons Visitor Center\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park (28373 Alicia Parkway\, Laguna Niguel\, CA 92677). Meet at the picnic tables adjacent to the parking lot.  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park parking lot. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.  \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 1/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring water and wear closed-toed shoes. Please dress appropriately for the weather\, including spending a limited amount of time outside after dark. A camping or beach chair will be welcome for comfort if you don’t want to sit on the benches. Flashlights disturb our nighttime friends\, but a flashlight with a red bulb will be less disruptive.    \n\n\n\nSafety precautions and protocols:  \n\n\n\n\nAdvanced registration required. Every individual\, including children\, must be registered. \n\n\n\n\n\nGroup sizes are minimized for safety purposes. SUMMARY:Nature Meditation Walk
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to unplug and relax in nature?  Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers on a guided walk to experience the outdoors in a new way and allow your natural sense of wonder to take you to a mindful space outside.  \n\n\n\nWe will walk less than 1 mile on relatively flat terrain and take stops along the way to engage in playful activities and mindfulness exercises to deepen our connection with the natural environment and ourselves. Our walk will end with a tea ceremony focused on reciprocity\, a segue from the special\, quiet space we share on our walk\, back to the busy world.  \n\n\n\nDisclaimer: This program involves drinking tea. If you have food allergies or sensitivities\, please be sure to notify the program leader upon arrival.  \n\n\n\nAge: 10 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Nix Nature Center\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (18751 Laguna Canyon Road\, Laguna Beach 92651\, East side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133).  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at Nix Nature Center parking lot. DESCRIPTION:Join Laguna Canyon Foundation for a bilingual nature hike in shady Wood Canyon of Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. This guided\, 5-mile hike with minimal elevation gain invites participants to explore the natural world in both English and Spanish\, fostering connection\, curiosity\, and community.  \n\n\n\nAcompaña a Laguna Canyon Foundation en una caminata guiada en el Parque Natural Aliso y Wood Canyons. Esta actividad bilingüe por los senderos de Wood Canyon es de aproximadamente 5 millas con ganancia de elevación mínima\, y tiene el propósito de explorar el mundo natural en inglés y español\, fomentando la conexión\, la curiosidad y el sentido de comunidad. \n\n\n\nAge: Ages 12 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.   \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas).
