Along the way\, we’ll share tips for exploring and stewarding the land responsibly. Perfect for first-time visitors\, new volunteers\, or anyone who wants to feel more at home in the coastal canyons. \n\n\n\nThis moderate difficulty hike is approximately 3.5 miles long and has 600 feet of elevation gain\, and includes views of the beautiful rock formations in the Canyon\, the expanse of the South Coast Wilderness\, and Sycamore and Oak groves. \n\n\n\nAge: 12 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \n\n\n\nLocation: Willow Staging Area\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (West side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133\, just south of El Toro Road).  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at Willow Staging Area parking lot. You will cross a seasonal creek\, ascend a steep slope where the terrain can be rutted with loose rocks\, be treated to views of colorful cliffs\, and finally reach a ridge with expansive views of the surrounding landscape. \n\n\n\nAge: 12 or older. DESCRIPTION:Explore Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park with OC Parks and Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers\, where you might see deer\, bobcats\, and hawks. Learn about acorn woodpeckers – the hippies of the bird world – and the wonderful ways of woodrats\, as well as the peculiar nature of certain plants. Enjoy wildlife sounds\, smells\, and sights on this moderately-paced 5-mile hike on rocky terrain with less than 500 feet in elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.  \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas). DESCRIPTION:Please be aware that this is a Fitness Hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile. Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers to raise your heart rate and your spirits on this strenuous\, fast-paced\, 8.25-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain with a 1\,200-ft. elevation gain. There is some rock scrambling involved in this hike. We will hike 2.5 miles on the relatively flat Wood Canyon trail\, climb Car Wreck trail to the top\, descend Mathis Canyon trail to Coyote Run trail\, then return on Wood Creek trail to the staging area.  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:30 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. SUMMARY:Advanced Fitness Hike
DESCRIPTION:Please be aware this is an Advanced Fitness Hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile. Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers to raise your heart rate and your spirits on this very strenuous\, fast paced 8-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain\, including 730 ft. of elevation gain in 0.6 miles on Sheep Run trail. This route starts at Aliso Creek Trail East\, continues up on Sheep Run (formerly known as Mentally Sensitive)\, and down on Meadows Trail. Your hard work will be rewarded with sweeping views of the park!  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:00 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Aliso & Wood Canyons Visitor Center\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park (28373 Alicia Parkway\, Laguna Niguel\, CA 92677)  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park parking lot. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.  \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 4/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed hiking shoes\, and sun protection. Hiking poles are recommended.   \n\n\n\nSafety precautions and protocols:  \n\n\n\n\nAdvanced registration required. Every individual\, including children\, must be registered. \n\n\n\nGroup sizes are minimized for safety purposes. For group registrations or questions please email volunteer@lagunacanyon.org \n\n\n\nParticipants must individually sign a waiver at the beginning of the program. For participants under 18\, a parent or guardian must sign the waiver. \n\n\n\nTo protect all employees\, volunteers\, and participants\, please do not attend if you are not feeling well\, have symptoms of illness or have been in contact with someone who was ill. \n\n\n\n\nContact volunteer@lagunacanyon.org with any questions.  \n\n\n\nWeather\, including high temperatures and wet or muddy trail conditions\, may lead to cancellation of this event.
