No experience is necessary.  Come out and join the team to help restore the wild lands we all enjoy!  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Nix Nature Center\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (18751 Laguna Canyon Road\, Laguna Beach 92651\, East side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133).  \n\n\n\nParking: Free parking for Keep It Wild volunteers at Nix Nature Center parking lot. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.  \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 2/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed shoes\, long pants\, and sun protection. No experience is necessary\, and all are welcome to come learn and tend to these habitats together. All tools are provided for volunteers.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. DESCRIPTION:Please be aware that this is a Fitness Hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile. Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers to raise your heart rate and your spirits on this strenuous\, fast-paced\, 8-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain with an 1\,340-ft. elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:30 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.  \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas). Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.  \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 4/5   \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed hiking shoes\, and sun protection. DESCRIPTION:As the day starts to settle into night at Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park\, bats awaken and stir. Come hear fascinating tales of our flying mammals. We will spend time near the picnic tables hearing stories about our little heroes’ nighttime adventures. We will then take a short walk to see our bats begin their evening of hunting for insects. Be prepared to walk about 1/2 mile.  \n\n\n\nAge: 6 or older. DESCRIPTION:Please be aware this is an Advanced Fitness Hike and not for beginners; the pace is approximately a 19-minute mile. Join Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers to raise your heart rate and your spirits on this very strenuous\, fast paced 8-mile hike over steep and uneven terrain\, including 730 ft. of elevation gain in 0.6 miles on Sheep Run trail. This route starts at Aliso Creek Trail East\, continues up on Sheep Run (formerly known as Mentally Sensitive)\, and down on Meadows Trail. Your hard work will be rewarded with sweeping views of the park!  \n\n\n\nPlease plan to arrive 10 minutes early. This group leaves promptly at 8:00 a.m.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. DESCRIPTION:Explore Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park with OC Parks and Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers\, where you might see deer\, bobcats\, and hawks. Learn about acorn woodpeckers – the hippies of the bird world – and the wonderful ways of woodrats\, as well as the peculiar nature of certain plants. Enjoy wildlife sounds\, smells\, and sights on this moderately-paced 5-mile hike on rocky terrain with less than 500 feet in elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.  \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas). DESCRIPTION:Join Laguna Canyon Foundation and the Sawdust Festival staff at the Berns Canyon Preserve as we learn about our native ecosystems and how we might explore them through art. This beginner class is perfect for those interested in exploring watercolor landscapes using watercolor-colored pencils. We will learn how to sketch and layer color with pencils\, then activate the pigment with water to create soft\, painterly effects. We’ll cover basic techniques like shading\, blending\, and creating texture\, all while working on a simple\, scenic landscape. No experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and creativity!    \n\n\n\nThis program is free with a suggested donation to cover the costs of materials and staffing. This donation is optional and is considered “sliding scale.” Please contribute what you can.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older.
