SUMMARY:Land Tending with LCF - Laguna Coast
DESCRIPTION:Join Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks at one of our Land Tending days in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park as we learn and work together to create a healthier habitat for the native plants and wildlife that call the canyon their home. Depending on the time of year\, volunteers will assist with various stewardship activities\, including removal of non-native plants\, hand watering\, seed collection\, and/or planting of native plants. No experience is necessary. Come out and join the team to help restore the wild lands we all enjoy!  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Laguna Canyon Foundation Headquarters (10 Phillips St. Laguna Beach\, CA 92651\, East side of SR-133/Laguna Canyon Rd.)    \n\n\n\nParking: Free parking for Land Tending volunteers at LCF Headquarters. DESCRIPTION:Explore Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park with OC Parks and Laguna Canyon Foundation Volunteers\, where you might see deer\, bobcats\, and hawks. Learn about acorn woodpeckers – the hippies of the bird world – and the wonderful ways of woodrats\, as well as the peculiar nature of certain plants. Enjoy wildlife sounds\, smells\, and sights on this moderately-paced 5-mile hike on rocky terrain with less than 500 feet in elevation gain.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: Canyon View Staging Area\, Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. From Pacific Park/Canyon Vistas intersection\, go northwest on Canyon Vistas. We will meet on the paved sidewalk easement leading toward Wood Canyon Trail.  \n\n\n\nParking: Free neighborhood parking. Park legally (note street signs) on or near Canyon Vistas\, preferably between Coastal Oak and Madia (22144 region of Canyon Vistas). DESCRIPTION:If you use the Wilderness Parks for hiking\, biking\, photography or just relaxing\, Trail Work might be right up your alley! Get up close and personal with the trails you use; you’ll see them in a whole new way. No experience necessary. This is FUN hard work. Whatever your skill level is\, there is a job to do: clearing drains to get the water off the trail\, pruning vegetation back to keep users on the trail\, moving dirt to rebuild eroded tread\, and restoring impacted areas are just some of the tasks we will accomplish. We will be using tools such as loppers\, picks\, shovels\, and McLeod’s to improve the user experience\, protect the fragile habitat and increase the sustainability of our trails. Expect to hike up to 4 miles while carrying tools.   \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. DESCRIPTION:Join OC Park naturalists for story time and short hike with your little ones (ages 3-6) as we explore honeybees! We will even get to try some honey! \n\n\n\nAge: 3-6 year olds. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.   \n\n\n\nLocation: James Dilley Preserve\, Laguna Coast Wilderness Park (I-5 or 405 south to 133 south to stoplight at 73 toll road; and make a U-turn\, go 1 block. Dilley is on the right.).  \n\n\n\nParking: $3/car at the James Dilley Perserve parking lot. Parking is limited; carpooling is encouraged.   \n\n\n\nDifficulty Rating: 1/5    \n\n\n\nMaterials: Participants must bring plenty of water\, closed-toed shoes\, and sun protection.   \n\n\n\nSafety precautions and protocols:    \n\n\n\n\nAdvanced registration  required. Every individual\, including children\, must be registered.   \n\n\n\n\n\nGroup sizes are minimized for safety purposes. You’ll learn to use your senses and make observations to experience and learn about nature.    \n\n\n\nAge: Designed for 7 to 12 years of age\, but all are welcome to participate. SUMMARY:Land Tending with LCF - Berns Canyon Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Do you dig plants? If so\, join Laguna Canyon Foundation for a morning of creating healthier habitats at the 18-acre Berns Canyon Preserve! LCF volunteers and staff will work together on various stewardship activities\, including hand-weeding non-native plants\, hand watering\, seed collection\, and planting. No experience is necessary\, and all are welcome to come learn and tend to these habitats together. All tools are provided for volunteers.  \n\n\n\nAge: 16 or older. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.    \n\n\n\nLocation: Laguna Canyon Foundation Headquarters (10 Phillips St. Laguna Beach\, CA 92651\, West side of highway 133). \n\n\n\nParking: Free parking for Land Tending volunteers at LCF Headquarters.
